Our History
4 Decades of Inovation and Growth

Starting Out
Gerber Construction was incorporated on October 24, 1974 by Preston and Max Gerber. By the spring of 1975, they recruited their younger brother, Scott to the family business. At first the work was mostly residential work and some commercial projects in the early 1980s.
Torrential flooding in 1983 and 1984 damaged some of the state’s infrastructure. Bridges, roads, box culverts, and basins had been washed out and needed to be rebuilt. Mother Nature provided the opportunity Gerber Construction needed to move into engineered concrete structures and more promising projects. They were able to rebuild many of these structures and in doing so began building the company Gerber Construction is today.
In 1984, Gerber Construction rebuilt the Gunnison Bend Spillway, in Delta, Utah. This was a defining moment for Gerber as extreme weather conditions and a tight deadline complicated the already difficult work. Completing the Gunnison Bend Spillway in such difficult conditions contributed to the reputation that they were starting to build.
Growing Up
Gerber Construction took on larger contracts after the flood years of 1983 – 1984. It wasn’t always easy to find work in Utah so we became licensed to work in the surrounding Intermountain States. No matter the location of the work, every job is viewed as an opportunity to grow and learn. In the early 1990s, we completed a rehab of 22 bridges on I-15 from Spanish Fork to Santaquin. This project allowed our company to learn what we needed to know to get the rehab job on I-80; which was our largest contract at that time.
Expanding
Gerber Construction was located in Murray on a half acre lot unitl the mid 1980s. At this time, we relocated to Draper, increasing to three acres, until 2001. Our current Lehi location operates on 12 acres. Each new location has been an opportunity for us to increase our growth and expertise.
With the move to Lehi, we were able to expand many of our operations. The expansion of the shop facility has enabled us to increase our fabrication production and streamline equipment maintenance.
In the midst of this expansion we experienced rapid growth in field crews and office personnel to keep pace with the work load. By this time, Preston and Max had retired and new ownership was taking shape.
